On June 18, 2009, the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) approved financial assistance to Texas water projects totaling $18,535,000 as follows:
$10,000,000 loan from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund to finance water system improvements, utilizing the pre-design funding option to the City of Del Rio (Val Verde County);
$2,155,000 loan from the Rural Water Assistance Fund to finance water system improvements, utilizing the pre-design funding option to the McCoy Water Supply Corporation (Atascosa, Wilson, and Live Oak Counties);
$1,500,000 loan from the Texas Water Development Fund to finance water system improvements, utilizing the pre-design funding option to Mountain Peak Special Utility District (Ellis and Johnson Counties);
$3,175,000 loan from the Texas Water Development Fund to finance water system improvements, utilizing the pre-design funding option to the City of Vernon (Wilbarger County);
$1,705,000 loan from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund-Disadvantaged Community Program to finance wastewater system improvements to the City of Wilson (Lynn County).
It has been said "Whiskey is for drinking and water is for fightin." In Texas, water is our most valuable resource, and has become increasingly scarce with our State's population explosion. Naturally, ownership, control and use of water carry tremendous legal and financial implications.
