From State Impact- Texas:
This is an interesting article about the arrival in many rural Texas communities of large, out-of-state, for-profit water companies looking to maximize revenue for shareholders. This phenomenon first began several years ago, and has resulted in wide-spread rate increases, including in rural areas of Texas, where local, familiar faces once controlled water supply and limited rates.
The big water companies, armed with expert-driven rate studies, and skilled water lawyers, are changing the face of rural water in Texas.
In full disclosure, I have provided legal counsel to one of the companies mentioned in the article, and have represented a community of rate payers against another. Nevertheless, the article is insightful, and worth a read.
In the Face of Rapid Consolidation, Rural Water Customers Plead their Case | StateImpact Texas
It has been said "Whiskey is for drinking and water is for fightin." In Texas, water is our most valuable resource, and has become increasingly scarce with our State's population explosion. Naturally, ownership, control and use of water carry tremendous legal and financial implications. Meanwhile, multiple layers of governmental regulation have made acquisition, development, use, marketing, and transmission of water in Texas increasingly complex. This site contains the musings of a water lawyer.
